Artists

Painted Canvas is dedicated to promote art and artists. We believe that art collectors are not just interested in the art piece all by itself, but they are also interested in the story behind the art. In other words your (the artist’s) story. We therefore aim to post interviews we had with our featured artists on a regular basis. Artists can contact us to apply for an interview. If you are a viewer/reader/collector and want to know more about a certain artist, you can let us know and we will interview that artist. We will feature articles in our Blog written by our artists.

Featured Artist of the Month

We feature a new artist every month. Please visit this page often and read their interesting stories. Please support our artists.

Lynne Menge

Question #1: Where were you born and did you grow up?

I was born in Johannesburg and grew up in Northcliff, then my family moved to the UK when I was in my mid teens where I completed college before returning to South Africa

My mother was very artistic so I started to draw and paint from a young age.

I went through stages of painting and not painting but always tried to keep up my art.

Working in the design industry as a graphic designer and creative director I was always involved in art in some way.

I now live in the Western Cape on the West Coast.

I prefer Acrylic as it dries faster and I find it easy to work with, although originally I painted in oils I found the drying time frustrating.

I consider composition the most important principle in painting and also colour, contrast and movement.

I prefer landscapes but have done portraits and entered the Sanlam Portrait Awards making my work into the top 250 paintings.

I love the sea and the movement it creates and I use this powerful force in most of my work.

I hope the viewer feels the energy and the vitality I try to crteate in most of my work.

My dreams are to inspire others and to bring pleasure to those who enjoy my art and hopefully to make a difference in the world of art.

I am not really inspired by other artists, and allow my inspiration to come from above, a higher source and through experimentation.

There is no good or bad art, it comes from within, a part of your souls expression and never loose confidence in what you do. Try and paint as often as possible, the more you practice the better you will become, and finding your voice and your unique style takes time.

I believe that I have a God given talent and this is my path in life .
