I’m Marietjie Nel, and painting is a heartfelt journey for me. I reside in the beautiful town of Hermanus, Western Cape, where I’ve found inspiration in the stunning landscapes and vibrant flora all around me.

In my art, I love to capture the essence of life and the beauty of flowers, nature and the ocean. My painting style is a beautiful reflection of my deep appreciation for nature and surroundings. Some of my paintings are characterized by vibrant colours and expressive brushwork, which breathe life into my subjects.

I employ a technique that balances realism with a touch of impressionism, allowing the pieces to evoke emotion and capture the essence of the moment rather than adhering strictly to photographic accuracy. The use of light is particularly striking; and I skillfully play with shadows and highlights to add depth and dimension to my paintings. This technique creates a sense of movement and life, making floral and ocean compositions feel almost three-dimensional.

I often focus on the intricate details of my subjects, bringing out the unique textures of petals and leaves, which invites viewers to engage closely with the artwork. I also embrace a palette that celebrates the natural hues found in my environment. My choice of colours ranges from soft pastels to bold, saturated tones, reflecting the changing seasons and the vibrant landscapes of the Western Cape.

This thoughtful approach to colour not only enhances the visual appeal of my pieces but also conveys the emotions tied to my experiences and memories.

My heart swells with joy knowing that my artwork resonates with others, bringing warmth and beauty into their lives. I paint not only for myself, but to share my love for life and family – a celebration of memories captured on canvas.
