Rosemary was born in Ndola Zambia and has lived in Zimbabwe, South Africa and the UK.
She followed a very varied and interesting secretarial career and worked in the UK as a carer for a brief period and a Viewings Co-ordinator for an upmarket estate agent in Somerset UK.
Rosemary married Keith (one of SA’s most widely renowned timber frame builders) in 1990 and together they ran the Timber Frame Builders Association for many years. Until then Rosemary had never dabbled in any art form other than decorating their stunning timber homes and producing a coffee table book on the history of timber buildings in South Africa.
In 2012 Keith and Rosemary moved to the Natal South Coast where she wrote a novel but still did not feel her creative side had been fully explored. She was fortunate to meet two ladies who have since become firm friends, and who introduced her to acrylic canvas painting – Rosemary’s passion was at last ignited ! A few years later she met Celeste van der Merwe – an outstanding artist and teacher – and she has never looked back. Rosemary paints realistically and although her preference is for seascapes, (she sold two of her panoramic scenes which now reside in Germany and Sweden), she loves painting flowers and wild animals. She is ’fanatical’ about all cats – wild and domestic – and believes that a house is not a home unless it is managed by at least one cat.
After their two year stint in the UK, the Rudd’s returned to their beloved Cape Town where they share their home with the diminutive, adorable Tilly. Rosemary attended classes with Lynne Menge whose dramatic seascapes inspired her. In August 2024 she met Betsie Morris and began attending her classes. Betsie’s vibrant art, gentle coaching and encouragement has brought out a ‘new Rosemary’.
So the artists who have inspired and indeed shaped her artistic flair are those ladies mentioned above.
